i guess bidders still don't realise that the reserve will be pretty damn close to the bin price. why do they bother.

Some people put in a bid just to keep track of what happens with an item, even though they don't intend to buy it.

I've often found it a good idea to place a bid to stay on top of something that ranks higher on my radar than a simple "watched item".
