The Guess Who was my first concert. I was in the 5th grade. The line up was The Guess Who, Jose Feliciano and Fanny.

I think the 'Tragic Band' is overlooked. Beefheart was revered in the UK as the weirdo's weirdo. A wilfully bonkers guy. The Tragic Band is interesting as it seems like his attempt to make a stab at creating commercially successful music. Hire some session musicians with no previous working history and make lightweight country music. It almost worked, but it still seems off kilter.

Beefheart came back to the UK in 1975 with a guy playing a tuba through an octave divider in lieu of a bassist. This pleased the journalists and fans who had him pegged as a weirdo.

Thanks for that. I was unaware of the Tragic Band era. I found the story here: http://www.beefheart.com/the-tragic-band/ after reading your post. I didn't really start listening to Beefheart until a couple of years after that. I was in the 9th grade in '76 and started expanding my musical horizons. I've been a fan since then.

I love the Slothead too but hate the giant black plastic mounting rings around the pickups that come along with them. The earlier models, like the one in the video, look so much cleaner/better.

Damn. I can't remember how to post a YouTube video. I tried to insert the link between the [url] [url] brackets and that didn't work. So I modified it and posted the link directly to the page. That didn't work either. Can someone refresh my memory? Thanks.

Ugh. That’s annoying. Thanks for saving me $850 Scott. I almost ordered one two days ago. I’ll look for a used VP as well. I wish sellers would stop treating the white ones like collectors items.

I made 4 different birds already. Very cool. The Hipshot D style bridge with separate tailpiece and chrome pickups with rings are sweet. A lot of cool color choices too. But, no mahogany neck, only the body. And the only color available on a total mahogany body is trans cherry. If you choose a different top wood on a mahogany body there are a lot more transparent color choices available. Solid/opaque colors are only available on an Alder body. That kind of blows. Personally I never thought of ordering a Tbird that wasn't mahogany but I wouldn't want one in natural or cherry or with a figured top. Were the Bachs mahogany? I can't recall. I stupidly sold the white one Carlo sold me. That neck was nice.  I did't think of a TB II while configuring but that's a great idea. It would be awesome if you could order one like that.

George, I had a similar problem with my left arm and hand due to a pinched nerve in my neck. My whole arm and hand went weak and numb. I couldn't play or do much of anything else with it. Even one push up was impossible. Acupuncture and chiropractic neck adjustments to keep the nerve free from impingement helped me to heal and regain the strength in my arm over a few months. No surgery. It's been 4 or 5 years now. Sometimes it acts up but not to a debilitating level. I get my neck adjusted a few times a year and it clears right up. It's certainly worth investigating and way cheaper than an MRI and, God forbid, neck surgery.

That's sweet! I love my V63 it's got a really slim, racy neck. It's my favorite of my three Rics.

I picked this up used a few months ago. A Reeves 225 with matching sealed 410. I traded my Mesa Prodigy head plus some cash and got a great deal. So glad I did. It sounds phenomenal. Looks pretty sweet too.
