This looks really nice. $1700 seems like a great price. The seller is not willing to ship.

Rickenbacker Basses / 4001 Question(s)
« on: March 17, 2014, 05:15:27 PM »
I've been itching to add a Rick to my stable for a while now.  I've played a couple newer 4003s but they both had pretty thick necks.  I've read in Rick threads where a lot is said about old ones having skinny necks. But not consistently. I've been looking at a couple of vintage 4001s. By looking I mean online and asking the sellers questions. Neither is close to me to be able to play. Both 4001s are for sale from reputable dealers. One is a 74 and the other a 76 both all original nice clean basses. Of course the neck pickup on these basses are in two different positions. In your opinions is one more desirable than the other. Or just different? Are there any other differences that deserve mention? Also both necks have been described to me as rounded and nice feeling in the hand, not clubby nor wide, shallow and flat. I know neck profile is a very subjective thing but since I can't play them. I can only ask the questions. I'd ideally like to find one without a big thick neck. Don't really care that it's vintage, just comfortably playable. Here is a youtube video of a 74, not the one I'm thinking of buying, that I think has really nice tone. Thank you guys for any opinions.

Other Bass Brands / "Pinky" NR 8 String Back Up For Sale
« on: September 28, 2013, 11:36:50 AM »
I'm putting Pinky back up for sale. Bruce Johnson emailed last week to let me know my Ampeg scroll bass is being painted and should be ready to ship by the second week of Oct. Something has to go and of the few basses I have, Pinky is the least regularly played. I know everyone here is familiar with this bass so I'll just post some new pics. I'm looking for $2260.00 shipped and insured. This is what I paid for it back in April. Would prefer a check or MO but will except Paypal if necessary. I'll probably shortly list this on TB within a day or two as I'm trying to move it rather quickly and I seemed to be the only seriously interested party here when Mark had it up for sale.

Other Bass Brands / Nice Silvertone 1443 Score
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:30:46 PM »
I just found this really clean Silvertone 1443 last week; the only long scale Dano ever made. I had been looking at some battered versions on ebay and just did a search. This appeared first up on GC's online used gear site. It had evidently just arrived. There was one shitty picture but it looked worth investigating at $449. So I called and asked all the questions and decided to buy it. They said I could return it to any GC within three days for a refund if I wasn't happy. Not a bad deal. So it arrived yesterday and well it's much better than I thought it was going to be actually. It's really clean. The neck just has only a slight bit of relief which I'm quite happy about. There is no truss rod but there is a micro tilt neck adjustment which works surprisingly well. I was able to tilt the neck back and actually raise the bridge to get pretty good action. It'll get better after filing the aluminum nut which is really tall. It sounds freaking great, nice and punchy and warm. Absolutely amazing with the tone rolled off and soloing the neck pickup. There's a little bit of fret sprout too but not bad. I'm really having fun with it and it's so damn cool. Here's the pics:

Gibson Basses / 90s Epi Rivoli Opinions?
« on: March 24, 2012, 06:48:59 PM »
I've been thinking about purchasing a 90's Epi Rivoli reissue. I've been reading up on them a bit and just decided I should ask you guys what you think of them. It's sunburst with a single Mudbucker at the neck and the tone button. It's really pretty and in great shape but how do they sound and or play? I haven't found much praise of the pup's tone including here in the archives. Any opinions/experience are greatly appreciated.

Gibson Basses / Used Epi Japan TBIV Lots of Chrome
« on: March 04, 2011, 02:46:13 PM »
There's a nice looking Epi Japan Tbird at the Nashville GC. There's only one rather dark picture. But it's got a four star rating and looks really clean. $899. I wish I could pull the trigger but it's not in the cards. Thought I'd pass it along here. It's on the GC used site:

You guys have got to check this thread out on TB. There are some awesome GI Joe wielding a Tbird pics and being crushed under the weight of a sweet sunburst RD.

The Bass Zone / Mike Watt's recent Stooges European tour diary
« on: June 05, 2010, 12:01:30 PM »
Hi all. I came across this and ended up reading the whole thing. I found it pretty interesting. It's Watt's recent European tour diary with the Raw Power Stooges line up (James Williamson on guitar). Thought some of you might enjoy it as well.
