Actually, I'll add to my comment.  I think I have sort of an odd style of playing, coming from years of trios trying to play two-guitar songs.  I lean towards pulling in a rhythm guitar feel.   Someone asked how I played, and I said it was simple - right hand follows the drums, left hand follows the guitar.

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing and it don't make me move if it ain't got no groove

I can relate to that, but if it ain't got a groove I'll find a way to insert one ..... I'm on a mission and have been for over 40 years ....  ;D

I once stumped the members of my ( then ) country rock band by inserting a fat riff into Paperback Writer, which we covered from the Herb Petersen version, but after a minute or so I saw their faces light up, then the lead-guitarist started to double my riff and the song really came to live. We played it that way ever since. Those are the moments, when it suddenly all gells, that make playing in bands worthwhile......... that, the women and the money of course

...right hand follows the drums, left hand follows the guitar.
Yes, and to expand on the right hand-
Thumb follows bass drum and pop follows snare.

Well lets see my first rule is always have a bigger rig than the geetard.  Seriously I play to fit the song. Most of the bands I have been in were three pic with vox. I use a lot of chords and drone notes. If you wrapped up Paul McCartney, Jim Lea and John Entwistle you would have a pretty good amalgam of my style. There are many other influences from Jamerson
-Jaco who fit in there some where. When I do lead bass work I like to get in and get out, first and for most is holding the bottom down. Finally my amp rig is half of my sound, when I hit the upper register I need the notes to jump out and sustain. For me British tube amps (Hiwatt, Marshall, Sound City)work best for me. In this picture is a good example of me covering a bass line and coping the rhythm guitar part. It is the solo out of Ball Room Blitz. I am pedaling the open E and playing the rhythm guitar part on the upper register. Works great. ;)
