Lowest tension flat wound strings for long scale
« on: November 08, 2010, 07:35:52 PM »
I'd like to string up my TBIV with the lowest scale strings possible. I am thinking TI's because simply because their short scales definitely take that cake.
However if anyone has any other suggestions like to hear about it. Currently my TBIV is strung up with Dean Markley flats which I really like but not as much on this one.

The TI's would definitely be the lowest tension.  I've not tried the DR Flatwounds though.  I think they may have a round core and if so they may be lower tension.  Those Markley's are pretty tight from what I recall of the set I had on my old Stingray bass.

TIs are the lowest tension, just ahead of the lightest gauge D'Addario/Ernie Ball flats.

I have long scale TIs on my Stingray, Nash P bass, and Maton.

Markley's are around the same tension as Fender flats, from memory.
Cheers

TI's sound pretty spunky for flats. Rotosound flats (  :o ) have less tension than your average flats too. I experimented with a lot of flats earlier this year but they just don't do it for me ......

i love labella strings.  both RW and flats. Prior to that always rotos.    Got my first labellas 760rm on my first fodera in 1983 and have been hooked ever since.  medium tension on the flats.  great prices at imperialguitars....

I have chromes on my ampegs aeb/aub and bruce johnson clone as that is what he uses and he supplies the extra long scale needed for the ampegs.  iIMHO the labellas are much better

TI's definitely.
I have TI's on my BB400 and I have Chromes on my SX Jazz. The Chromes are quite good but not as low tensioned as the TIs. I had a set of LaBella's "Deep Talkin'" flats a few years ago and hated them, too dead and very high tension...yuck!

Not as slinky as TI's but GHS Precision Flats are really low tension...much cheaper, too.
I have a set on my P bass and they're pretty comfortable and sound nice and thumpy.
