I had so many opportunities to buy EBOs and EB3s back in the days when they could be bought cheap . But I was just another Fender Pbass guy that looked down on short scales , and Gibson basses . Suddenly the word “vintage” came into use and prices skyrocketed . Now I’d love to find a red EB3 in nice shape .
I’ve had my eyes open for a while looking for a local sale , there are more modern SG basses around , but it seems they rarely come up for sale around here . I wanted a red one . There’s a ton of Epi EB3s that are getting flipped , but I wanted to hold out for an American made Gibson . I have an Epi V and a Woody . Both nice basses .
It was an on again off again seller . We settled on a price , then he decided he wasn’t going to sell but we eventually made the deal for the agreed price . When we met in person he was very agreeable .
I’ve spent a good number of hours on it today . The joy of retirement . Strings are old , so I’ll change them . I’m used to playing different basses so I don’t judge things from a single perspective . I like it , and think I’ll come to like it even more as I get more time on it .
For some reason She’s Not There by the Zombies struck me as an EB3 song so I listened to that and got the lines . This SG seems to be a nice take on the classic . I do wish the bevel on the horns was cut deeper though .
