Gibson Basses / Re: This is a real put on

Can't you copy the transfer and use a computer to make a new iron on, saving the original?

Great idea, Ray! I still have one laying around somewhere...

Hey Ray, if you get tired of it one day and I can dig up the scratch, I'd like to buy it off you for when one of my boys gets the itch. I played one at the banjo center the other day and thought it might make a great 'first' bass. They're 3 and 1 right now, so no hurry...

Did anyone else end up with one of these? If so, did you iron it on anything?

A couple of months ago someone was selling a set of those iron ons. They are kind of cool to have (at least to me).

I had two. I ironed one on a white Dickies work shirt. I cut the logos out of it though, leaving just the bird with the bass. After having been stuck to that backing for almost 30 years, it didn't completely transfer, but it looked alright nonetheless. I still have it but the shirt is getting pretty hammered. It looks like it's from the 70's now as well.

Yes.

Gibson Basses / Re: Watt's new bass
« on: September 03, 2008, 08:48:19 PM »
If this idea progresses to the point it might be attempted, you should know that it must be a short scale bass if you actually want Watt to play it. He lost the ability to play long scale a while back. Not sure what that means, but that's what his website has mentioned. That being said, I'd gladly donate a part if I have what you need, and if not, a few bucks. With the number of people we have here, I don't doubt we could make it happen.

I'm looking forward to getting one of these eventually. I prefer passive electronics most of the time, so the stock setup will be fine by me. I wanted to get in on the Dudepit III, but now that I know I can get close to the same thing anyway, I don't feel so bad that I couldn't.

Man, if I had a spare $650 I'd buy it just for the curiosity factor. That being said, the back of that headstock does look pretty busted!

Imagine the spliff that inspired this!

You gotta watch it for a while, but the payoff is worth it.

HA!! Vince's hair is even MORE airbrushed on your copy than on mine. Mine is like the 3rd pressing or something like that.

I was so embarrassed for him when I saw that! All those photos were airbrushed poorly, but that hair looked ridiculous.

I'm still not quite sure whether he just rests his pinkie on the optigrab or actually even inserts it, thus "hooking up" with the TBird. ...But we need expert evidence: Herr Carlston come forth and enlighten us!!!

Before the optigrab, Nikki just hooked his pinkie under the edge of the bridge, which a three point allows fairly easily. With the optigrab, he does 'hook up'.

I guess he got tired of his pinkie slipping all the time, which you can see here.

Nikki's signature has remained fairly consistent over the years. Here's one I got after a gig at the Whisky on the day they 'released' their first album, Dec. 11, 1981 (Nikki's birthday as well):

I can't remember why I smeared my name out on this scan... I think I posted this once at some site where I wanted to remain anonymous...

As far as Tommy's drumming style, I guess he picked up some flair during his previous career as a ballet dancer:

Yes, that is him...

I don't think they ever used ebony on a Tbird before?

They have a number of times over the last 20 years. My white 2002 had an ebony board, as well as my black 2001 that Bill now owns.

Once they actually played, it was nice. I don't know the origin of the original tune, but I know it as, "Sweet Hour of Prayer". It's not often I come to the Outpost and hear a tune I could have sung last Sunday!

Looks like the line is distributed in the UK by JHS...

Yeah, I was wondering why all the shops that turned up in my search were in the UK... I may order the V anyway. I'll just wait a few months and let it be a Christmas present though. The dollar looks to be improving a bit, so I may save a few bucks if I wait.
