But this is nice though more The Doors than Deep Purple. Which is not to say that DP didn't have a Doors influence. Gillan got the job because he looked "just like Jim Morrison" according to Blackmore.








Your keyboarder plays beautifully - and not just the length of his mane gives him a Jon Lord aura. In the new band project I'm in we finally have a full-fledged piano and Hammond player, he has a massive sound, is no shrinking violet & I find it immensely enjoyable!

Greta van Fleet appear sincere (rhymes!) in what they do, misguided but sincere. I give them credit for that. Kingdom Come appeared more "casted" to me (though I can still enjoy their debut, there are albums from around that time that sound a lot more dated). Kingdom Come mostly stole the hard rock bits from Zep; the Fleet guys are more comprehensive in their sonic raids of Zeppelin archives. They've taken all the bluesy, folky, world music and psychedelic elements on board that forged the Zep sound.

He looks less Robert Plant than Daisy Coverdale did during her worst of times.

His style is more "Santana at Woodstock" , which is probably the music he grew up to via his parents. I've seen children go astray worse.

Music critic who maintains that the Yardbirds were better than LZ.  He is basing a lot of this on the "Yardbirds '68" recording released fairly recently by Jimmy Page.  Something which most people (including me) haven't heard yet. I'd like to find it, though.

greta van fleet. had to look 'em up. a bunch of really short guys living the dream. a really dad dream but i digress. there is only so much you can do within a standard guitar based group, and its been done to death. no surprises there. keep looking.

I have two sons in the GVF age group. I asked my 21-year old if any of his crowd like them. He replied "No-everybody hates them. They're just a Walmart version of Led Zeppelin." For the record, he is a fan of neither Walmart or Led Zeppelin. He is somewhat puzzled by the fact that I can't stand GVF, though.

Frankly, I haven't heard many young'uns express an affinity for them. To the contrary, it's mainly old farts like myself, some of whom are so desperate for something new (that sounds like something old) that they will cut them an inordinate amount of slack for their ersatz Zep schtick. To a starving man, a s**t sandwich looks like steak.

Their first album brought smiles to my face, it was très cute in its rip-off way. The new album I find mannered and much less immediate than the predecessor. They need to develop an own identity.
