'Owdy! When my kids (full grown) got the Bach '51 P-bass for me, the day I turned... must have been, like, hrrm... well, anyways, they got me this bass that's a real pleasure to play. And it don't have any logo, except for the one that followed with the bass, in an envelope. So possibly they'll leave it all up to you, as Ricky Nelson once put it so neatly. (Now, that's Rick for you youngsters. Good singer. To bad he's Gone, gone, gone. As Phil and Don so correctly noticed.)

No matter what, it's quite interesting to watch the changing habits when British groups hit the charts after The Beatles break-through. About the only group I can remember using Fenders, between The Shadows and Hendrix, was The Swinging Blue Jeans who used a Stratocaster, and a Jazz Bass. Everywhere else it was Gibson, Epiphone and Gretsch all over the place. And some Guilds, too. It also seems like the guitar of (economic?) choice, before these brands, where Hofners. But very seldom Fenders. So one can ask why? Was it the connection to the old school, Ventures, Shadows, and so on?
All right! Let's divide into small groups, and discuss the matter. Start.... Now!!!
- Hmmm, interesting... but what about Duane Eddy? Wasn't he into Gretsches?
- Now, that's correct. But remember, he was an American artist.
- Yeah, right... But what about Terry Dene?
And so on...

Ought to be a Rivoli, since the EbII:s were seldom seen on the British music scene of the 60's. At the moment I can only remember Keith Grant of Downliners Sect playing one, though there of course must be some other players, too. The Rivolis were very popular amongst British bassists in those days. Did Epiphone have better ways to take care of business, than Gibson? If so, how come? Anyone in the know?

Hi! I would recomend any aspiring bass player to do a check out on Rick Dankos bass playing. He had a fantastic way of putting clever basslines together. Anyone out there who remembers the first listening to The Band II, and Look out Cleveland, for example? Wow! What an interesting bass line. Wild, and at the same time traditional in some ways. Dankos work with Levon Helm is pure masterpieces.
Now I'm splitting from the chilly fall in northern Sweden, for the warmth of the south of France! Adieu!

Now, that's a really nice shot! Two T:s together! Never seen that before. I know there's been bands with two bass players in them, but is there anyone knowing if there's ever been two T-Birdplayers in one band?

I would say it's a Lotus. or a Morris. Korean basses. If we could see the head, I'd guess it looks like a turned-around Gibson head. That's the way these basses looks. I bought one, beautiful cherry red, for $150, on the bay couple of years ago. Through in a '65 T-bird pickup, Badass bridge, Gibson tuners, P-bass knobs. Changed the head into a Gibson style. Looks beautiful, plays good. If it is a Lotus, then it's a neck-through. If it's a Morris, I guess it's a bolt-on.
I've showned it before, on Last Bass. Here it is: http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=220.30

Hey, these pickups can't be 70's? Looks like 60's to me. What's the story behind that? Who's in the know?

What the...? Last time around I knew how to do this trick, and get big and proud photos through the mail. But now? Where did I go wrong? But that little bass player sure looks nice, or what you say, Uwe?

In mosquito country, "way up north", as Johhny Horton put it in his trade mark song North to Alaska. Though this is Sweden, just a few kilometers south of the polar circle. Epiphone Embassy. Summer of 2005.

All right, folks! I've seen the future, and it ain't nice... But, you can obviously dance to it!

Uwe! I'm more turned om by Mambo Kings rather then Vi Kings. Listen to this tune, performed by the great Los Lobos, from the movie Mambo Kings. The book was really good, the movie not so good, but Los Lobos can turn water into wine.

Man, that should be put under the headline ”Terror”, and buried deep beneath the sand, where ol' Booney wrote his love letters. Phew!!! Days like these, I'm satisfied to know that there's soon a weekend to come...

In my opinion, that big band version really sucks! If there's anything that's really hard to stand, it's those takes to transform former hits to wanna-be-Sinatra-land. Ouch!

Well, me myself, I'm looking for Queen Kong!
