I was surfing some info about producer/director Michael Mann today and strayed onto the IMDB pages for Last of the Mohicans (1992), one of my favorite movies.
In that movie is one of the most polite but devastating put-downs I've ever heard on film. When Cora Munro finds that her soldier beau has acted against Hawkeye and wants to control her, she hits him with this:
"Duncan, you are a man with a few admirable qualities, but taken as a whole, I was wrong to have thought so highly of you."
In context, she could have hit him over the head with an axe handle and it would have been less insulting and devastating.
She follows it with: "You've complimented me with your persistence and patience, but the decision I've come to is this. I would rather make the gravest of mistakes than surrender my own judgment."
Do you have any favorite movie insults/put-downs?
