Thanks, guys.  Mike got his bass yesterday, so far he's digging it and raving about the sound...sometimes I think I'm only making a platform for Steve's pickups

To me the current bridge/tailpiece were the only visual part of the bass that needed upgrading.  Functionally there's really no difference between old and new.

I'm really looking forward to building some new stuff in 2012.

'66, no subtlety here!  I prefer the '63 but am in a definite minority.  ThunderBucker Max is on the way, we'll see how that does.  It's a bit darker and louder than the '66.

 I prefer the 63's myself but what the 66 does it does very  well.

Can't wait - hopefully they will be available in both 4 & 5 string versions. If a 5 is available,  I want to drop a pair in my Gibson 5 string studio.

Should be possible.  I'm testing the production prototype 66 EX in my 2012 NR Fiver.  Very healthy B string response.

I finally got around to gigging JAEbird #4 last night wearing the pair of 66 Thunderbuckers I bought a while back.  We play most Sunday nights at this venue (in wig and jumpsuit-free mode we're the house band at the only casino in Sydney, playing blues rock). The venue provides backline, which is an SVT-3 Pro (not my favourite amp) into a SVT-610HLF (which I do like), so I'm very familiar with this amp and cab after playing here for a number of weeks already. 

Coincidentally, without any "what are you going to wear" conversation at all, one of our guitarists brought his Firebird along, so we certainly did look very cool last night.  But, the sound!  I'm definitely going to be gigging my JAEbird as often as I can now - pure awesomeness.

LOL, not bad for someone who has never smoked.  I play in bands with some great singers, so I don't get the opportunity very often myself these days.
