If it's criminal to paint mahogany, then Gibson's execs might be trouble... oh wait! Too late!  ;D

I am of the opinion that they started using solid colors on solid body electric guitars so they could use up wood pieces that weren't so beautiful.

No need to match board grain or color either.  I'd be willing to bet the  'LP junior' bass doesn't look like this 2 piece body under the paint

No, it probably doesn't. OTOH paint lets you make use of pieces that aren't as pretty.

Here it is covered in red and ready to fly. 8.8 lbs

And here's Jon Campagna playing the living s**t out of it the day after he got it...he's in his early 20s.

Damn.  Simply damn.

That's a level of bass playing that some of us can only marvel at.  WELL played, and obviously a beautiful, well set up instrument.

It's inspiring to me, I send 'em out and there's always a question mark until you hear from the customer.  That was Jon's first and only take.  He set up the bass to suit his playing, I had the action super low and he likes it a lot higher.  Gotta give Steve his due on the pickups!

I don't feel so bad about bad about painting it anymore. ;D

Many thanks to all for the kind words. I'm truly humbled.

My Cataldo Built FenderBird is now the prize of my bass guitar collection. The wide array of tones that I can get out of this thing is amazing. Truly a finely crafted instrument.

I made another video tonight, and I'm sharing it for all to enjoy.

Any questions about the bass, don't hesitate to ask!

Nice work, mate. Are you playing with both p.u.'s and tone turned up?

Edit: welcome on board, beware, there's full of weird people here...
