Dir en Grey or, say, Einstürzende Neubauten or early John Cage'ish Velvet Underground are about as much "performance content" as I can take if I want to listen to music repeatedly. A little industrial/noise is ok. If it's more I can perhaps dig it at a one-off performance, but it's nothing that would revisit my CD player. But then that is why it's called performance art.
I liked Laurie Anderson - are Herr Reed and her still an item? - but then her stuff was pretty sophisticated with light and shade and not so much onslaught throughout.
