The Outpost Cafe / Hey, I like it and I think it's art ...

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/apr/28/too-provocative-mermaid-statue-causes-stir-in-southern-italy

It always made me wonder even as a kid: How and from where do mermaids poo? This sculpture is maybe not the first one to offer biologically sensible clarification, but certainly a very vibrant attempt to do so, molto bellisima!

She's of course not the first mermaid sculpture with a butt, the The Little Mermaid/Den Lille Havfrue in Copenhagen has been watching the harbor for exactly 110 years now in all her tranquil grace.

If not always without criticism.

One (wo)man's art is obviously another (wo)man's scary-scaly Nordic Nazi statue.  ???

The Outpost Cafe / What do you think?
« on: April 26, 2023, 03:05:42 PM »

I think the really different vocal melody kills any plagiarism accusation. That's not to say that some really idiosyncratic chord progressions cannot sometimes be strongly indicative of a song, but this is not Alan Parsons vs Lady Antebellum or Albert Hammond/Hollies vs Radiohead.

Or Zep's Stairway vs. Spirit's/Randy California's Taurus for that matter. I thought that the intro parts were uncannily close and shared essentially the same atmosphere.

Gibson Basses / Not a Gibson, but it sorta belongs here ...

Have you guys been aware of this here:

https://www.session.de/products/rock-n-roll-relics-thunders-bass-black-heavy-aged/?cpkey=3-AgUI2Zg1i_JBXilNMostLgORCbaB5ABoMHCEhVo1_y0ym3GDimLY2oolP190t_4j8jDwYZZhV_E4jJbe_aKg~~&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxYOiBhC9ARIsANiEIfb0rDuYWOyuR9obyZq07vND9mMenFyXkjcij0NkFH7OczNhItUXB1AaAqriEALw_wcB

A guy named Bill Rowe (ex-Jetboy, the 80ies Californian glam band) is behind these. I'm no artificially aged instruments guy, but if it rocks your boat, then these seem to be well-done - and pricey!

No, not jade eggs, something useful for once which - if applied correctly - can also prevent fishy smells.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/apr/11/tupperware-warns-could-go-bust-emergency-funding

My wife is a great fan. (Whenever a piece of Tupperware leaves our household because a guest is taking something with her/him, my wife gets all restless until it has been safely returned.) And it is my conservative guess that we could go a long way stocking a Tupperware museum with exhibits if need be. That stuff - unlike lesser plastic ware - really is indestructible. And seals tight. We all know: Tupperware can't spill a leak ...

And don't forget to 'burp' it correctly!

Animals migrate.

I actually like hippos. I know they're dangerous, but they are graceful underwater.

Couldn't they take the place of your manatees you've managed to make almost extinct? I'm sure they have effective defense mechanisms against too many boats in their environment.

The mind boggles. Do they exchange construction plans on how to build nuclear arms as well when arguing about the nuclear arsenals in their game world?

Stumbled on this by coincidence. If you take an interest in varying lead guitar styles (as I do), this is a treasure trove. The guy knows what he is talking about.

Rob, I'm making amends! I've finally gotten around to listening to the Live (well, sort of) & Dangerous boxed set by Lynott and his men and rather than listening to it from start to end, I started at the end with the full London and Toronto gigs. And, yes, I never thought I'd be writing this, the band is on effing fire and the group interplay is tight and exciting with lots of panache. Impressive, more so than the original doctored Live & Dangerous which always sounded too good and tidy to be true to me. These new releases from the vaults, however, sound both looser and more to the point.

I you, like me, are a fan of scientific documentary nature flicks, you'll miss her. Precumhistoric life was never portrayed more vividly.

The Bass Zone / Why we became bass players ...
« on: February 14, 2023, 09:22:35 AM »
"Ahh requests. People sure love to make them, usually via mid-song, alcohol-scented hollering (keep smiling). Or they occasionally sidle up to the bass player to try to get a word in; people seem to think that bass players don’t actually do very much and are therefore available for a conversation. They became a bass player so they wouldn’t have to talk to people. Leave them alone."

So true.  ;D

"Sadly you are antisemitic to your rotten core Roger Waters. Also a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching, misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. Enough of your nonsense."

Well, I'm glad that Polly aka Ms Gilmour didn't character-assassinate Roger or anything like that! A little even-handed, constructive criticism can go a long way to rescue a friendship.
