The Bass Zone / Re: hey pick players ?
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:08:29 PM »
I can play with my fingers because that's how I started playing, but I've been using a pick 100% of the time for years now. I also use the green dunlop picks. I always play over the pickup, and use either P-basses, jazz basses or Musicman basses most of the time. I do break strings, but I also pick pretty hard (maybe too hard, but that's my bad technique).

Gibson Basses / Epi Elite T-Bird pickups vs. Gibson pickups

Were the pickups in the Epi Elite T-Bird the same as the pickups in the Gibson Thunderbird? If not, does anyone know how they differ?

Are subscriptions to North America available Chris (particularly Canada)? If so what do they cost?

 Yes, it's tearing me up that you won't be the one to own this.  :P I think I'd put myself on the list of heartbreak over this before you though Terry.

It's a cool bass, but the rarity and cost would put me off playing it, and I need basses I can play. It'll be a great investment for someone though.

Beyond amazingly rare, one of a kind.

Hmmmm....maybe when my cabin sells....

Nah~ but if I could get the quarter million I was originally asking for it before real estate values dropped one third, then HELL YES!

Hey Andrew~Are those the only lefty Gibson T-birds ever made or were there others??

Hey T, other than a few odd "custom shop" pieces it's my understanding that the two are the only lefty Thunderbirds made, and certainly the only vintage ones. I believe the reverse T-Bird passed through Route 66  about 15-20 years back, and they were who I talked to about the pair of lefty T-Birds.
At the time they also had a really rare vintage lefty Les Paul that Gibson only made 3 of; the other two belonged to Paul McCartney and John MacEnroe.

how could you ever forget about the Minutemen

I didn't say I forgot about the Minutemen, just saying that after not listening to them heavily for a few years it was nice to revisit them and still really dig their music.

That's actually not a real fight. It's from the movie " Never Back Down".

Here's a real fight if a wanna be fake tough guy gets his come-uppance HARD.

Here's a "don't mess with the quiet guy" fight:

I was told years ago that only two Thunderbirds were made in the 60's, one reverse and one non-reverse.

This beauty is $15,000.  :o

I would talk to the other guys and get a sense of how they feel about the guitarist. If they're happy with his sound and style I'd move on. If they agree with your feeling about him, I'd have a talk with him to explain that you hear a different sound/style on your songs but you really want it to work with him because you think he's a rad guy. If he's not receptive to change then I'd go back to the other guys and see what they want to do. Whatever happens, try to make the change not cost you a friendship. But address the issue right away, before anyone gets further invested in the band.

Sounds cool John. I forget who the term was applied to to describe their style (maybe Adrian Belew), but your phrasing brought it to mind for me; orbital guitar.

www.myspace.com/allthroughalife is me.
