White/BT S/5:

And two nice double-bound 4003's: one in Jetglo -

And one in Burg - could be a refin:

The Burgundy looks semi-transparent. Did they come like that, or is that why you think it might be a refin?

The 5er -- well, I turned down the chance to buy one for $500 10 years ago. I like narrower than average string spacing but that was just ridiculous.

The seller wrote "Looks like it has been refinished at some point. Although I am not positive."

All Burgs were semi-transparent. This one, with the chrome hardware and black plastic, looks very Gibson-ish. I'd swap the pickguard for a b/w/b laminated guard to complete the look.

Two quick observations regarding the Burg. It has a one-piece pickguard with two-piece screw hole pattern, and a 1980 should have a 2-piece guard because the truss rod adjustment nuts are at the body end. So it could be a replacement part. Same with the tailpiece - it's the 7-bolt type, I don't think they had those in 1980. But this could be an experimental bass, and the pinstripe binding wasn't the only special feature.

Sorry, I didn't read the auction description. The finish does have a resemblance to Gibson cherry, especially with the black trim. But I don't remember seeing one up close, if I have it's been years.

There's a lot of variance in Burgs. Some are eggplant colored, others more red, some are close to Gibson cherry or Fender Wine Red. Basically it's Fireglo mixed with Jetglo.

I had one, an 81 (I think) and it was a lot darker than that and did not appear transparent IIRC. I think that was most likely a refinish too, never saw a Rick that looked like that. Is it possible it was a 4001?, I don't think the TRC is original either unless they didn't put the model numbers on the black ones during that period. Every late 70's early, 80's Ricks I've owned had the model number on the TRC.

I have two black TRC's (a black Plexi on a '73 4001 and a raised letter) that don't have model numbers, just MADE IN U.S.A. Both are genuine.

Nice one. $9000 BIN seems steep, you never know, though. The seller needs better focused closeup pics.

I have a black one hanging around somewhere too, I'll have to pull it out and check it, I don't remember it saying the model number on it either, mines a raised letter.

1968 4001!

Yeah that thing looks almost mint, one of the nicest if not the nicest one I've ever seen.

The seller of the double-bound Burg has added this pic. Definitely a refin.
