Billy Cox Cort Freedom Bass
« on: November 11, 2010, 10:10:43 AM »
In the wake of my GS Cort Axe Bass I now am the proud owner of one of these ! I took a chance for $227 bucks. Been reading a bit on Billy's career and listening to come of his older stuff lately. I know this bass has no bearing on his Hendrix stint I still thought is was pretty cool. I remember when these came out was it the mid 80's ???

I had the pleasure of seeing Billy Cox on the "Experience Hendrix" tour earlier this year.
I'm not a Hendrix fan at all, but it was a great night.  It opened my eyes to a few guitarists who I never really regarded very much.
Billy was solid and it was great to see Doug Wimbish live.

VERY Fenderish for my taste! I thought they were kinda cool when they came out, for a little over 200 bucks it can still be a POS and look cool in the collection.

I've always liked those!  I think they made them in white and black too IIRC.

Difficult to see in your pics but it had always looked to me like this model is voiding its bowels.

When I bought this I couldn't remember when they came out. I was thinking late 80's or so. I looked it up and found varying dates starting  between 2000 and 2002. Funny thing is I now remember thinking when they came out that it was a bit odd in 2000 something to be coming out with a Billy Cox bass. It would be really cool If Fender did one with the same pup configuration and a block neck!

That would work, I like the position of the P pickup on the Cox bass though.
