1981 G&L L-1000

Picked this up cheap recently.  Mahogany body and ebony board.  The back of the neck was sanded down but that is about the only real issue the bass has.

That's nice! That's your second 4-stringer, right?

Soon to be first!  I'm putting the Framus on Ebay to offset the costs.   :)

Very nice.  Right now, the bass I've had the longest is my '81 L-1000 pink rat bastard.  I got it for $250, and no bridge.  I put a new G&L bridge on it, and it has the neck from a L-2000E.  It's a great sounding bass.

I like the early ones, and that's a nice warm mahogany burst.

My '81, somebody added the extra pup in the '80s, good job.  Alder, ebony, trans red.  Sweet neck.

Nice!  These pickups are HOT!  I'd forgotten just how much so.  I had to plug into the active input on my amp.

They sure are!  I think of the L-1000 as the final evolution of the Precision.  Output and tone versatility without batteries.

Yup.  I've always said that my rat-bastard L-1000 is a far better bass than my '64 Precision was.  Here's a picture of my son playing mine.

I have a similar one - maple board but loser fretless conversion.  A real beater that I got off ebay ages ago.  Sounded and played great.  The StingRay taken a step further, without batteries.
