Ok, the guy has humor ...
« on: November 10, 2020, 09:40:43 AM »
... when most shredders and tappers don't, that makes it entertaining:

I hear a lot of Stu Hamm in his playing, but he has undeniable chops.

I can't even tap a single note!

Wow. That's definitely playing at a higher level!

Credit is due to Berklee professor Jim Stinnett who I'm fairly sure guided Charles in the direction of becoming a bass phenom. Jim's son Grant shows a similar level of chops. Charles and Jim have a two handed tapping book available if you want to learn their techniques. Lots of other great resources for the practicing bassist as well.

Impressive it is.
But is it of any use in a band? I don't think so.

I don't think so either.

The guy can play, no doubt about that, but it won't get people dancing.

All true, he's more a solo pianist using a bass to express himself than a bassist in a band role.

 These guys should form a stand-up comedian AND bass tapping/slapping duo. Not really bass playing, but good fun. What the Harlem Globetrotters are to basketball.

Borat would say:  Percussive learnings to make benefit for great nation of Basszadan!

I posted a link to this SNL sketch a few years back, some of you couldn't see it. Hope this newer link will work.

That SNL sketch hits a little too close to home. You could be a 10th degree black belt of solo bass playing and the average person is not picking up on a fraction of what you're doing. Explains why Brian Bromberg isn't more popular.
Turns out Jack Black is a fan of Charles. Here's how Charles expressed his grattitude.

The guy is an absolute riot!

And ample proof that you guys should have never discarded British rule.  8)
