Two walnut Rickenbackers?
« on: February 04, 2016, 06:50:12 PM »

I loved my 4003W enough that I also ordered a 4003SW.

The S is slightly more comfortable without the binding, but they are both amazing basses.

Beautiful! I prefer the S.

I haven't seen one in person, though I did see a 330W.

Do you like the darker or lighter walnut better?

I recently had a standard 4003 pass through the collection briefly, and it reminded of how much I dislike the feel of the binding. Looks great, but not comfortable for me.

I still want to see one of these with a black pickguard and TRC.

Beautiful. Now you need an early 4004C to complete a trifecta...  ;)

A guitarist friend has the 6 banger version (650D or S, don't remember) and it is a wonderful instrument.  Despite the maple fretboard (I generally no likie; laquer) and that (to me) retro 70s (not in a good way) look, I love farting about on the damn thing so comfortable, playable and sounded great - had it at my house for a bit for a setup and a wiring issue (one coil on one pup went bad, my bud bought it used that way - rewired it as a single coil).

I had a 650 briefly. Neck too wide for me.

Yeah, it is a bit wide, but it's like a Gibson  Victory neck in that they compensate by being very shallow/not thick (flat oval/shallow D), so I still find it comfortable.  Quite unlike Ric bass necks (or the ones I've tried).

The one I had wasn't particularly shallow, just average. Funny how even as little as 1/8" can make a difference in playability, depending on you hands and comfort zone.

In person they appear to be about the same shade.

You have no idea how bad that I want one. I know where one currently is available, I just can't afford it at this time.
