63 Epi fuzz bass on EBay
« on: December 19, 2014, 04:49:13 PM »
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1963-Epiphone-EBSF-Newport-Fuzztone-Vintage-Fuzz-Rare-/261700203009?rmvSB=true
Saw this on Jules site EB claims one of only 25 ever made.

63 seems early for fuzz to me.

Wow, If I ever knew that there was an Epi version of the Gibson EB-0F, I had forgotten it.

The EB-0F was only produced from 1962-64, so the date on this one is right. I can't imagine him getting anyway near that price though.

I researched EB0F's pretty hard when I got one. I have this magazine ad somewhere with the epi fuzz pictured, but this is
the first time I see one for real. I love it! The EB0F's are rare and pricey, but does not seem to sell fast when listed. I followed a few (!),
and some was on ebay a couple of years at a steep price before taken out and relisted later.

I had some correspondance with gibson too, it was more like 'have we made a fuzztone bass, are you sure?'

That's quite a fascinating find.  At least it is to me anyway.  On the other hand, I can't even imagine anyone paying anywhere near that much, either.

If this is such a rarity is it going to be of interest to a certain person of Deutschland origins...?

I know he has collected some and I suspect this is different enough from being a "fin", but he's also not one for over-priced, but... very niche-market and very specialised, but Uwe's way way beyond the law of diminishing returns...

He'll be interested to see it but I doubt he'll want to pay that price.

Unless I'm missing something, doesn't look like it sold.

I'm not obsessive with Epis, old or new. I have a Newport and I have an EB-0F, no need for a Newport-F. That distortion sound is extremely limited in its usage, but otoh it has a typical sound you can't get with anything else.

Every time I go to it, it says it has ended, both yesterday and today.  I'm not sure how ebay works anymore.  I lost so much money on it ten years ago, I never bother with it.  I'm assuming, though, unless they've changed things, that time has expired on the item and if he still wants to sell it, he'll have to re-list it at some point.

This seller also has a retail store and it's in his inventory, assuming his online inventory is current. It won't necessarily be relisted but I'd guess it's still available.

He has quite a few 60s vintage Epi guitars, also priced well up there.

That makes sense.  I've noticed that stores that list on gbase do have a tendency to have the prices well up there anyway, not just on vintage Epis.
