new to my growing short scale herd: MIJ Mustang
« on: September 25, 2014, 05:43:36 PM »
As I continue to add basses to the herd that Bill Wyman used back in the day, I recently added a fiesta red Mustang. I know, I should have bought one in competition orange, in order to be historically accurate, but once I added some stripes I figure the average audience member wouldn't know the difference under stage lights.  I'm quite surprised at how beefy the baby P bass pickup is on these - it really does play and sound like a mini P bass, for a model that was originally a low budget member of the Fender catalogue.

Yep, they do capture a lot of the Precision tone. Not quite the same attack, but that's probably more due to the scale length difference.

Congrats! Those MIJ Mustangs are nice builds! The Stones tribute has really taken off I gather? I'd love to find a good tribute like the the Who.

It's going well.  5 years this month!  We sold 525 tickets to the show in that video

That body style bass is a pleasure to play - light, decently balanced, and capable of great sound.  Looks good!

I really think the stripes kick it up a lot too.

You bet they do.  I've always found that to be a neat accent on the Mustangs.  I copied it with automotive striping tape on my Squier Bronco (and I couldn't resist the V8 sticker either, fresh from AutoZone...and I have added B&W dice knobs since this photo was taken.)
