1937 Regal Bassoguitar on eBay
« on: September 14, 2014, 02:16:38 PM »
At the same time that Paul Tutmarc invented the electric bass guitar, Regal developed the acoustic guitar-like bass.

This could be louder than an Ernie Ball Earthwood ABG.

It's giant. And uses upright gut strings. $4.5K BIN.

It will make you look 3 foot tall  ;D

This is Israel Crosby with Fletcher Henderson's orchestra.

The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

I'd guess the Earthwood would be louder. This beast filled a need back in the day, but it wouldn't surprise me to find out that the tone is lacking. It's a collector's piece only.

I went to the Old Car Festival two weeks ago at Greenfield Village and they had an interesting acoustic band with  four hammer dulcimers ,a mountain dulcimer , three acoustic guitars , a couple of people that switched off on mandolin , violin and flute and a five string acoustic bass using a sawed in half 24" bass drum for the body and a fretless neck with dots that was more like a bass guitar neck and used phosphor bass guitar bronze round wounds. It really caught my eye and it sounded great. It was custom made in Grand Rapids , Michigan. This thing was really cool......and No , I'm not getting one ;D.
