Sholt ol not?
« on: July 25, 2014, 03:09:41 PM »
Seattle Sally dug this up here ... My Axis buddy in the offer says it's short scale (but offers no details):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171393503704?afsrc=1

But for the life of me (and bearing in mind how Japanese men are reputed to have size issues) I can't see what should be short scale about it? It's not that it doesn't look like the (long deleted) Shortybirds Gibson put out for a year or so (and which failed abysmally commercially), of course they could have put a short scale neck on a regular TBird body in the nineties with correct pup and pg placements, but that would have necessitated moving the bridge forward. Yet this bridge is where it should be (with a long scale Bird).

That said, I find the concept of a short scale TBird (like a short scale Explorer) self-defeating. Unless you are Suzi Quatro that is. If you don't look stunning in a leather overall, then that bass/shape cries for a long scale neck, period, anything else is kami without the kaze, seppu without the ku. Still, this would be a freak addition to ze Kölleckshün. But judging flom zee pics I don't even see a point in asking whethel it's tluly sholt scale ol not ...

Doesn't look short to me, and what does he mean by 12 frets 450 mm? That it's over 17" to the 12th fret?

Don't ask me about the details. He didn't like to talk about it and I knew enough not to ask.

I don't think Uwe's looking for one of the Shortybirds, pretty sure he already has one. He was just curious about the ebay listing for Japan which might have been a different model. But I don't think it's short.

I have the regular shorty indeed which is a fine little bass if a bit redundant. The world is waiting for lots of things, but a shortscale TBird is not among them.
