several weeks ago dylan's  ( i'm going electric monterey strat) sold for around 950,000 bucks. is this too much to pay for a guitar. :P

I guess not, if you're obscenely wealthy. Look at how Les Paul's leftovers sold for 3 to 4 times the original auction estimates, which were already ridiculously high. Hero worship has no dollar limits to some people.

A JAE PC sold for circa £35K ... mine came out of the same garage and is worth nothing like that; things reach the value that people put upon them... Stradivarius is a point in case...

It's a chunk of wood, fer chri'sakes...
