Weight is the price of admission when it comes to these Lucite basses.  Every time I see one I can't help but think of that pic of Gary Gary Beers in the liner note's of INXS' X album where he's looking through a clear P at the camera.  That was the first time young me ever saw a clear bass. ... and apparently google image does not have a decent version  of that pic.

I've played a few late 70s Ps that were logs too. But well balanced logs. Still, I wouldn't want to play a long set with one.

I once owned a '79 Strat that was 10.2lbs! Not even a bass. Sounded like crap, btw.

A Fender P can be 8lbs. and still balance well, no need for extra weight when the strap button is over the 12th fret.

Everything got heavier in the 70's, including ThunderBirds.  My '64 II weighs 7.5 lbs, IV 7.8.  My '77 weighs 9.2.  To me that's a big difference though I know it isn't to most people.

I do really like those see-through basses, just lost interest when I learned how heavy they are.

 When I had my '77 refinned recently I got the bass back without any of the hardware on it - it felt like a toy, so light I thought it'd float away!
