Will a Greco Thunderbird fit in an Epiphone hard case?
« on: November 27, 2013, 02:36:49 PM »
Can any current or former Greco 'bird owners confirm that an Epiphone Thunderbird case will work?  Looking at options for my incoming white Greco 'bird.
Cheers

Mine fits like a glove but I understand there are at least two different Epiphone Thunderbird cases.  Hafta make sure to get the right one.

I have 4 Epi TBird cases.  3 of them will fit my longest TBird, a '77.  The difference in the cases is where the form fitting part is located.  On earlier cases it's closer to the headstock end.  All the later ones I've seen (with the script Epiphone logo) have the cutout closer to the body end.  I think this is the current production.

When you get the Greco, measure from the tip of the headstock to the strap button.  I'll check to see if it will fit what I have.

Update: Basvarken tells me that the Stagg ABS RB2 case fits a Greco Thunderbird and is lighter than the Epi case, so I've ordered one of those, for around $30 less than I would have paid for an Epi case.

Kudos for Basvarken for telling me about the Stagg case - fits perfectly, and is feather light.  Thanks!

Carlo, it's not fitted as such, but a Thunderbird fits snugly with no wiggle room.  And the case is as light as my Hiscox cases.  Quality wise, the case looks better than SKB or Gator to me.  I think the overall external dimensions would be smaller than the Epi case too.  All those factors swayed me.

That all makes sense Mark. I use molded cases whenever I can!  I have 4 of the Epis for my personal 'Birds but it would be nice to have a lighter molded one for gigs.  Sizewise I don't think you can get much smaller than the Epis.
