Excluding a certain "Cheap" player, has anyone else done anything significant...? I can't think of anything or anyone...

Nick Lowe used a 8 string with Dave Edmunds on occasion

Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam uses, or used, a 12-string I believe.

There is a reason why these beasts did not conquer the bass world. Speciality instrument is damn right.

What's wrong with that then? Sometimes you need one for just a one song like Jeff Ament needs the 12-string if they play "Jeremy" - it doesn't sound right on a 4-string.

I don't think they are knocking them but saying the truth. They do not fit in every situation or band. Listen to Jpj solo music. Adding other instruments to his multi string songs would clutter the music in my opinion.

Just my opinion.

I really love the sound by the way.

Wasn't there a Hagstrom 8 string on Axis: Bold As Love?

Yes, on "Spanish Castle Magic" and "You've Got Me Floatin'", at least.

Chris Squire have used an 8-string every now and then. "Changes", "Safe", "Going For The One", "Awaken" (studio only) etc. He tunes the D- and G -pairs to fifths.

I'm having a blast with my 8-stringers.

I had reservations about tying up any money in one, figuring that it was a niche instrument and all...  I tested the water years ago with an '80 Ibanez - my first 8er... then picked up a 4003s/8 last year... and now I'm scrambling to find funds for a gorgeous BCR Bich Supreme 8 string that I have a shot at.  So if it works out, I'll have one in short, medium and (almost) long scale  :)   Never had an opportunity to try one, but I also GAS for a B12S...

They're not for every situation, but I've found them to be a lot of fun in their own right.  I play them quite a bit at home,  especially when its just me and my son (bass and drums), and I've been gigging the Ric with the band from time to time.

Cheers and good luck with the NR sale!
