I know nothing about vintage records. Is that high or what you would expect for what seems like a rare piece?

i've seen robert johnson 78's sell in that price range. its been that way for years. many thousands of 78's were destroyed for the war effort and there is a small but fanatical market for blues 78's. i think the only blues record more valuable would be a charly patten 78. bob hite of canned heat had one of the biggest collections of blues 78's around. after he died the collection was broken up and went to many different people. i assume many were lost or broken in the process.

A record collecting friends sent me the link, I'm no authority on what these usually go for. It's almost done, wonder if it will shoot up from last minute snipers.

Holy Crap!  I wish now that I had taken better care of my old 78 rpm Chess Records of Muddy Water's "I Just Want You to Make Love to Me".  I picked it up for a quarter at a Goodwill store back in the late '70s, but too many moves and not enough protection finally broke it into a couple pieces.

Is it just me or did it look "too good"...?

Gary took the words straight out of my mouth - heresy to say it, Mr GG, but I'd have turned it (Muddy's IJWMLTY) into a clock and hung it in the bedroom... ;D

When I still had it, I had every intention of framing it.

...

Are you talking about the condition of the 78? I don't think so. It didn't look exceptional and the the look matches the description. Seller also said the A side plays with hiss, so he certainly isn't claiming it's mint.

I have a few old 78s, late 40s to early 50s, they would photograph at least as well and they don't sound as good as they look.

When my neighbor abandoned her house I went snooping. Under the house I found some opera 78s including at least one Enrico Caruso record.

I gave a few hundred away some years back when you just could not sell them for love nor money - a few Carusos, over twenty Bing Crosby's (best known was "Red Sails"), odd-ball stuff like Danny Kaye's "The Thing"; even a Sinatra and Doris Day - they weighed a ton and we had no space at the time... all used to belong to my dad who gave them to me when he moved back to Scotland... after he died there was another box of about 100 Gaelic language ones I gifted to a local community centre on the Island... some of them featured relatives songs and singers... one of my mums great uncles was quite a famous songwriter in his time... I have a song book of his collected works that is over 100 years old... something I consider as an heirloom... mum was a singer that never took it seriously but when she got together with the family they would all be singing harmonies in these old songs... the shame is that I lost a tape I had of her singing some years back that I recorded in the early 70's... the only one that existed... she passed in '92 and I have no sound of her voice...
