A sheet metal guitar
« on: May 15, 2013, 01:50:50 AM »
My friend Ville Tyyster has made a guitar that has a hollow body made of sheet metal. It has an inner pickup in addition of two normal pickups and the inner PU produces a dobro-like sound when plugged into an amp and an acoustic guitar -like tone when plugged direct.

The sound samples 1-6 were recorded using a 70's Vibrolux and a Shure 57 and all the tone shaping was made by using the guitar controls (volume, pickup selectors and tone). Samples 7-9 were recorded direct to the board with EQ flat. You can trust me, I was there! :)

Cool.  I did something similar with a few project guitars, except the entire body wasn't metel, just the top (stainless steel).

It is almost impossible to come up with a new guitar shape (and overall design) that has a look and feel as if it has been a classic design for decades.
Most attempts look far fetched or completely off.

But this guy nailed it. Very impressive.

Agreed and much appreciated. I'll let him know your thoughts.

I agree. The design has a traditional feel that reminds you of classic influences yet it's not a copy. Very nice looking.

I like the advertising in the link too - looks like an old page from a catalog from the '60s or something! The pickups are cool too - I like the way the colors match!

Wow! I already said that I think the designs of the guitars are amazing.
But this video is awesome too.

These guys make Art with a capital A. (IMHO)

This place has them for sale between 2600 € - 2995 € but you can always ask straight from the source.

He has built one 12-string version too. Sounds and plays great.
