Powerful and Shiney
« on: July 31, 2012, 05:50:22 PM »
Last weekend we took my grandson to the Illinois Railway Museum. It just happened to be their Diesel Days event where they run the deisel locomotives. One of them is the only surviving EMD E5 which is pulling the Nebraska Zephyr. This set was donated to the museum in 1968. I remember these going through town so fast you couldn't read their names. We did get to ride.

 E-5's are SO badass!

Who else but us Amis could even concieve of a locomotive whose carbody is made of shot welded stainless steel. That it could go 117mph on track made up of 39ft lengths says a lot about the Q's high level of track maintainence as well. Definately EMD's (GM) coolest loco!
I used to have an handmade brass A-B set of them in HO scale, they were neat models.
