He may have been a complete weirdo but he had good taste in basses...
STILL, this is a great song!

Our band used to play that one.  We do "Give It To Me Baby" which is from the same record.  It's funny how when I start playing the main line (before the drums even come in) people start yelling.  I love a song that starts off with a bass line.

Believe it or not, he was in a band in the sixties called the Mynah Birds (iirc) that had some guy called Neil Young on guitar - even recorded some stuff...

I trawl deeper than you'ld believe...

Rick James was caught draft-dodging (iirc) and that meant Bruce Palmer and Neil Young ended up heading for the West Coast, and the rest is history, so to speak...

(and talking of trawling, finally found that stuff I was looking for so hopefully heading your way this week... ;))

Still my favorite Rick James song off of his first solo record "Come Get It!" back in 1978.  The bass part is super smooth.

Wow! I had no idea. But I like Rick sings on those sixties recordings. Live, he was certainly more than just a disco act, his band funk-rocked and at their best had nothing to fear from Mothers Finest in their prime.

I like it a lot especially the second tune, and technically it sounds as good if not better than most of the other stuff from 1966. Rick James sounds very good.

Thanks Bob, that's a neat bit of trivia. Sounds really good.
