"New" '75 Ric 4001 - what color?
« on: June 15, 2010, 11:25:23 PM »
Last sunday I traded my trusty Darkstar-Precision for my first ever Rickenbacker. A '75 Ric 4001 in what I thought was Burgundy. But at home I began to doubt, because it's rather more redish than I expected. I like the color very much though! It has some serious wear-and-tear, but it sounds fantastic  8)

I dated the Ric back to January 1975 and according the available colors around that time it could only be Burgundy. Yesterday I had a short meeting with a fellow bassplayer, and he brought his '73 Ric in Burgundy. Look how different the colors are, although both to be Burgundy:

Strange....... ???

That's Burgundy. There were many shades of this finish, from lighter reds like yours, to very dark eggplant. But they were all designated Burgundy.

Burg was a mixture of Fireglo and Jetglo. The ratio varied.

35 years of fading can have an effect too.

Congrats on your new bass! It looks great.

Forget the differences and enjoy the instrument for what it is... congrats...

Tnx, I'll surely enjoy it!

35 years of fading will also have an effect, but was just curious. I like the color, the bass delivers what I expected, so I'm happy!

Love burgundy. Yours looks great with the more reddish hue. I like the dark eggplant ones as well.

Tnx! There appear so many shades of Burgundy, I'm really surprised. Your Ric look great Jim, very nice dark one.
