This one is for sale in Holland for too much (imho). (Selles wants 1800, bidding starts at 1200) (Euro's that is.)

Did they do different fingerboards on some 4000s? That fingerboard looks really dark. A lot like my Greco 4001S copy. As you can see, my Rickenbacker knowledge is extremely limited, but I'm always ready to learn more.  :)

Another one for sale in Holland. With 1295 euro still too much in my opinion, but maybe white is a plus. I haven't seen this color much on a 4000.

They do tend to vary in color, but yeah, that one looks REALLY dark for a real one. As far as I know, it's always been some form of rosewood/bubinga.

I have a 1975 catalog that shows the 4000 in white. Loved that white/black color scheme. My first real bass was a '79 4001 in that finish.

There is something about some set-neck 4000's that I don't understand. The neck meets the body at a different angle side-to-side than on a neck-thru 4001/4003.

As a result, the upper horn is higher in relation to the body.

To demonstrate, let's look at part of a page from Ric's 1975 catalog, which has a set-neck 4000 and a neck-thru 4001.

I'll draw a red rectangle, perpendicular to the strings, so that you will see what I'm talking about.

All my Ricks (6 in this shape) differ in how/where the horns are. I always thought it was an age question and not a model one. Or maybe just the result of manual labor.

You may be right. The two 4000 examples in this thread had the horns in the same location as the three post-1995 Ricks I owned.
