You know what? Jules is gonna play that thing live I bet. And it won't be out of place with his Brit funk outfit either, the eighties are so long past now, they are cool again. And on albums such as Franz Ferdinand's latest one, the 80ies influence is loud and proud. I only recently bought Nile Rodgers' solo album from 1983 - Land of the Good Groove - and really dig it. Once Jules has that bass in his hands, he will agree: There is nothing cheesy or cheap about it, it's a well thought out and designed bass with a substantial feel (and a manly neck), not a toy or a novelty gimmick. Trust me.

You of all people, Jules! I'm moved. May I exclaim "Splendid!"? This is akin to the UK adopting the Euro or right lane driving - doing something sensible for once.

Thanks for the congrats Dave, Joe... I do feel very honoured to be in Uwes special club.

So Uwe, are you going to write the text for my 20/20 page for me? If you do a good job we might be able to create enough buzz online for Gibson to reissue another 400. What do you say?

And it won't be out of place with his Brit funk outfit either

yeah.... my current band is a 50s/60s yardbirds thing... (see my sig)
They roll their eyes when I take a ripper/rd to rehearsals...  :o

Oh, you're in a Tory band then!!!

You'll fall in love with the 20/20, I'm sure. Since you like the RD Artist, the 20/20 isn't that far off in sound at all.

An offer to write for the most honorable of Gibson sites? I'm flattered!!! I'd even try to contact Ned Steinberger for that.

Seriously Uwe, i've spent no time at all researching the 20/20 and i'd be delighted for you to help.

I did try and get a Jim Lea interview sorted out (with you in mind for doing it) but no joy. If you can get Ned Steinberger to add anything that would be brilliant.

Tory? I don't get it?  ???

Tory = because your band mates are so conservative about bass designs

If you're doing the Yardbirds, you at least need something that existed at the time.

True, I wasn't aware that Jules wasn't doing his chilled out Brit funk anymore. For a Yardbirds sound, the look of the 20/20 is the least issue though, it will just sound too "there" and hi-fi. I guess Jules will have to start his Rush tribute band after all ...

I'll try to get a hold of Ned Steinberger's email and write him (with you copied in, Jules). If Phillip Kubicki and Wayne Richard Charvel have replied after being thus approached, why shouldn't he.

Gibson to reissue the 20/20...?

10/10 till they do it again...  ;)

Congrats Jules... now, if your anywhere near Surrey, maybe I could beg a visit to try her sometime...  ;D

Yeah, well, I actually share my birthday with Paul Samwell Smith. I usually play an EB2, EB3 or one of my Newports, but i'm looking for another old hollowbody. Maybe a Gretsch or Guild.

I'll try to get a hold of Ned Steinberger's email
Thanks Uwe, that would be great - just hope he doesn't scour the forum and find all the 20/20 jokes...

if your anywhere near Surrey

I'm in Milton Keynes, but you are welcome to drive up if you want

I've written Herr Steinberger an email, let's see. Regarding 20/20 jokes: This man will detect jealousy when he sees it!

Wait...what? Aren't you the source of most of the 20/20 jokes?

When you're in the locker room, do as the locker room boys do. Self deprecating humor is the only thing that works here, have you forgotten the amount of derision poured over me in my selfless quest for the reappreciation of the SB series?!!!

You're just like Edith. She always tells me too that all I ever did at school was make ironic/sarcastic remarks with her rather than do that Tarzan/Jane thing!

That was different. The SB series was Norlin saying "let's see, we'll improve the EB series by making a cheap pale imitation of it."  :P

The 20/20 was intended as a serious bass in its time, even though Gibson was late to the party.

Doubtful. More like: "Let's beat the Japs at their own game." With - admittedly - uncertain success.

"admittedly uncertain success" - I'll have to remember that one.

As in, "the Edsel was an admittedly uncertain success for Ford."
