During the late 80's Ric dealers couldn't give that colour combination away. You've really gotta love it to spend that kind of money on one. Personally I still find nothing attractive about it.

Please keep your eyes open for my stolen 1973 Burgundyglo Rickenbacker 4001 Serial # MD1582. It was stolen in November of 2006. Reward for its return. Thx!

Same here. Not attractive to me.

Friend of mine bought a red/BT 360 in the early 90s for half the usual street price b/c it had been hanging on the wall at the dealer's for something like four years.

I heard/read a rumor that the Red/BT scheme was inspired by some of the automobile finishes of the time. Remember the Pontiac Fiero? Bright red with no chrome but black trim and accents. The BT option came about in the mid '80s, and some colors came standard with black trim and hardware: Midnight Blue, Red, White, Silver, and even Mapleglo (from '86 to '92). BT was also available with the "reverse trim" option for the other colors up to 2002, although I've seen only one Fireglo with BT, and no Turquoise or Sea Green with BT (yech!).

My older son had a red/BT Fiero. Fortunately it wasn't one of the ones that caught on fire.

I've seen it referred to as Ferrari red.

Officially, RIC calls is "Red" (RED), so all modifiers such as Ferrari, Mandarin, Brilliant, or Fire Engine are given by others who think "Red" isn't descriptive enough. "Red" is a solid color, not a metallic, not a translucent.

Other RIC "reds" include Fireglo (FG) which is a burst of translucent red; Burgundy (also listed as Burgundyglo) (BG) which is an overall translucent red wine color that varied from bright to very dark ("Eggplantglo"); Ruby (RBY) which was at first a bright translucent red over silver for a "candy-apple red" appearance, and later was a single-stage metallic dark red; Amber Fireglo (AFG) was a Color of the Year for 2006 and was an artificially aged Fireglo by use of an ambered clear coat; Dark Cherry Metallic (DCM) was a special deep maroon metallic made for the 75th Anniversary specials made in 2006-07; and Trans Red, a nearly transparent deep red for the 4004Cii Cheyenne II.

Wasn't the 2014 limited-run bright red w/checkerboard and maple neck designated Fire Alarm Red?

1964 1999RM in Paris, France - $5,746 on Reverb, starting at $4,481 on eBay. Replacement horseshoe pickup. Typical forward-tilting headstock. Blurry pics are a warning sign.

If he sells it, at least he can afford a better camera!

Ahh, yes! A very limited edition that came out a couple of years after the book. I've never seen one in the wood (so to speak), but I sure like it! It appears to be a brighter red than Red!

What about the '64, Paul? Does anything look suspicious? Because if it's real, even with non-original horseshoe pickup, $5.7K is a steal, isn't it?

I don't know because the photos are so poor.

Now here is a funny thing about that '73 4000. I remembered seeing it somewhere in the past. And then I found it. It was sold by Swami at the now-gone Bass Palace, in Jan 2012, when it had a black overspray. I remembered the exact same crack in the pickguard. I compared the pictures for the one definite birth mark - fretboard grain. Well, as far as I can tell it's the same bass. I guess someone managed to get the black paint off the Fireglo. Also there's a mark under the MADE in the TRC - same on both pics. And the off-center cut on the E bridge saddle... it's that bass.

I entered a bid... wish me luck.
