Now that's beautiful, and better than the original with the new truss rod and better pickup balance.

The guy who bought the same bass twice — first in 1977 and again in 2023

1997 Turquoise 4001v63. Missing the "shoes". Very reasonable $2.4K BIN price. From Japan, free worldwide shipping.

That's in very nice shape for the price.

I wonder what size frets were used for the refret. Can't tell from the photos. The original RIC frets certainly aren't high as the seller seems to be claiming, so these must be pretty low.

That 4004C makes me a little nostalgic, but not nostalgic enough to buy it at about twice what I sold mine to Paul for, about a dozen years ago.

And I still have it! It was my second Rick, and after having as many as 21 Ricks at one point (for about three days, I think), I've kept only two; my first one, a '72 that's been refinished and restored, and the '93 Cheyenne I bought from Dave back in '03 or '04! I did have Jeff Rath do a similar vol/vol/tone mod to it, but she's still a beauty!

Your Shadow is in good hands. The 3rd Shadow in Israel, also known as "The One From The Book".

One of only two basses I've owned that have made it into a book. The other was a Guild JS II that was in the color pages of S.P. Fjestad's Blue Book of Guitar Values for years (maybe still is).

Dave you must have sold it right before Rickenbacker prices soared. I bought an '81 4003S Fireglow for $800 in 2001 and sold it in 2008 for $2100. I turned around and bought a V63. I also sold one too soon, a Jetglo 4003S for $600 in 2003.

Paul says it was 2003 or 2004, he must be right. That was before used prices went up. I had bought it for slightly less from Mark Furlong (fur85) a couple of years before, just wanted to break even after shipping. No regrets.

I bought my '89 4003S for $625 in 2000. It was well played, but all original, including case.

Right around Y2K, one of the local GC stores had a used near mint mapleglo/BT 4003 for $500. I passed b/c I already had one 4003. Stupid me.

About the same time, another location had a midnight blue 4003s/5 at $550. That was the only one I ever remember seeing in person and playing.
