Makes perfect sense to me - that's why I sold the Studio Bass AND my Hiwatt DR103! To me, nothing sounds more like bass than old Ampegs.
Oh I agree with that.

Recently my band Slavantas moved to another rehearsal space, and our bass player Peter (who's also my younger brother) has been playing over this wonderful eighties SVT head and 4x10 cab and we, as a band, never have sounded so full. His bass playing is like a solid foundation thanks to that amp.

So now our lead singer is pushing him to get one of those amps himself, not realizing that Ampegs (and the old ones in particular) are expensive. Not to mention a LOAD to carry around. But the sound makes up for that.

You won't get an argument out of me. I love all three of the amps you mentioned, but if I did a side by side comparison and had to make a choice, I'd probably be sittin' here with an SVT :)
I grew up playing Ampeg for 20 years or so and for me the B-15, B-18 and SVT are still the gold standard. The first two are  a bit underpowered for most situations today, the third is too freakin' heavy and they're all too damn expensive these days. But yeah, they have THE bass sound down  :)

That's why I refer to this as the world's largest practice amp ;D. I use some smaller, newer 'pegs as the grab 'n go rig (B50R stacked atop a B100R with a outboard tube preamp) - but these old friends (seen here with the Frankenstein P-Bird and '78 Orange) are still The Truth to me!

These days my main rig is an Alembic F-1X into a QSC PLX1804 and a pair of SWR Goliath Jrs ....

Although sometimes I'll go a bit silly and bring along a third cab just for kicks .....

Missed this one... All my gears a bit scruffy, really...

1970 Hiwatt DR103 "SWITCH" variant (think Dave Gilmour) - in need of some minor repairs and upgrades...
1970 Marshall 100w 4x12 (with a missing speaker) - pending replacenent of the remaining original celestions...

I also have a 1968 Marshall 50w "smallbox" amp which needs work desperately...

George, that's one of my Nashes.  The dakota red and oly white ones are both PB63s with Lollars.  I also have a Nash 51P that is a monster blues machine.

Well, there's 4 million people in Sydney, but I've never met a guitarist here named Kenny.  Also, I lived away from Sydney between 1984 and 2007, so I can't say my Sydney muso network is as good as it could be.

Scott,

You must have one very healthy spine!
Seriously that is an awesome rig - my bandmates would crap if I showed up with that!

Always a pleasure to see your rig, Scott...  8)

Mark... there are 2 Ken/Kenny Stewart's working out of Sydney (the other one's band is/was called Urban Guerilla or something), and although my "cuzzie" reckons he had some minor success, I've never met an/conversed with an Oz that had heard of him, either...  ;D
