Seriously, nice one, a child of the seventies myself, I've always had a soft spot for these. Supertramp and Styx come to mind, I leave it up to you if that is entirely a good thing!  ;)

My daughter has a shallow-body Ovation guitar, and she really likes it.  The electronics package in it has a built-in tuner - does yours?  It's REALLY handy!!  And which model is the OP's...this one is a basic Celebrity.




Seems like people either love or hate the Ovation rounded back - myself, I've always been comfortable with it.  My AEB is an Applause, which is an Ovation with a different headstock.

Congrats, Blazer! I've got an Ovation too, I'll post a pic or 3 soon...

Cat Stevens is my inspiration.  8) His MAGIKAT DVD is a must have.

Yeah I know I'm a little late on this thread...first time this far South. heh

The thing with Ovations is that you're stuck with THAT sound, no matter how you mike them or through which amp you drive them, they will always sound metallic and harsh.

But seeing THIS guy...

...made me fall in love with that Ovation sound, and I've learned that adding chorus and reverb makes for beautiful textures I can make with that typical Ovation sound.

I've got a DVD of Larry Corryell,  John Mcglaucklin (forgive my spelling) and Paco Deluca at Albert Hall. Both larry and John were playing Ovations.
I'm here to tell you, this is not your typical three guys sitting around playing acoustic stuff . Nothing one dimensional about the sounds they were getting either. After listening to that you may elevate Ovation guitars to the same status as a Stradivarius violins ;)
