The French luthier(s) Jacobacci devised a similar design for the bassist Bernard Paganotti:



That look just plain stupid with that "antenna".
There's a guy on Talkbass who did that with a Thunderbird. When I wrote that I didn't like the looks of it, he felt very insulted  :mrgreen:

A previous owner of my Alembic added a brass strap pin extension. It was gone when I bought it, with no trace of it ever having been there thankfully. Funny thing is, the bass hangs pretty good as-is. A wide, suede-backed strap and it's all good.
