At least Larry mentions iconic basses.

I think Uwe would be perfect for that job.

So we will talk about pre-Hornüng Fenders in near future?

'I play a Fender P.'
'A pre-Hornüng with chrome hardware or a new one with black hardware and a three point bridge?'

Henry J should jump to the occasion.
And then Uwe H can fill in the vacant spot at Gibson

A win-win situation (for Gibson fans)

Furthermore (unlike Gibson), there's no mention of luxury- nor lifestyle products. On the contrary they actually support the idea of a leadership that actually plays music:

But if you go to the lifestyle products section of Musician's Friend, you'll find Fender products outnumber Gibson quite a lot.  I got the bright idea of buying a gift for a friend last year who likes Gibson but dislikes Fender.  I thought I would easily find something there.  I was wrong.  I guess Gibson may lean more toward luxury items, though, like watches that cost thousands of dollars, etc.

But seriously, If I had that position, I would go directly after Gibson. Make close copies a la Heritage. Go for the jugular. I'd also leave any "relics" to the Custom Shop instead of producing MIM "road worns" with the exact same unrealistic looking artificial wear patterns, and I'd get rid of the crossbreeds like the Jagcaster. And I wouldn't introduce any new designs (e.g. the Dimension bass) b/c they never sell well.

Yes, Fender -like most bigname manufacturers- do offer a lot of t-shirts, coffee mugs etc. My point was more leaning towards the fact that Fender seems to have lifestyle products more off focus in the corporate room than Gibson have. In a "Build good instruments first and the gadgets will sell themselves" -sort of way, whereas Gibson keeps on putting out new guitar models with features which 95% of the customers are'nt interested in.

I remember a couple of years ago when Gibson seeked out for six new product developers and this is what was mentioned in the qualification part: " Minimum of 5 years of successful product management experience, preferably aligned to retail luxury/lifestyle products". Not anyhere was there a word about anything related  to development of musical instruments, only "products".

Aren't those the "Road Worn" condoms?
Resident T Bird playing Drag Queen www.thenastyhabits.com  "Impülsivê", the new lush fragrance as worn by the unbelievable Fräulein Rômmélle! Traces of black patent leather, Panzer grease, mahogany and model train oil mingle and combust to one sheer sensation ...

Yes, that's true. My point, though, is that if you're planning on buying a nice gift for someone who liked Gibson and you're even prepared to pay a lot if necessary, it can get pretty frustrating to go to a site like MF and find that the lifestyle products are overwhelmingly Fender.

Of course! Surely you don't expect to get a Custom Shop condom at these low low prices.

Hopefully the wear won't go all the way down to the, errr, bare wood.
