For Guild bass fans with deep pockets
« on: November 17, 2017, 07:29:34 AM »
Just found this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/302531797474?ul_noapp=true

Not pristine condition, upon seeing the fingernail groove and finish cracks, but must be original finish.

Some of these sold for that much before the 2008 recession, now they generally go for about half that. Reverb's price guide shows 1300-1700 for recent sales.

I love the look, but not the price.  Of course, I'm cheap. But dang, that's a classic-looking bass.

I remember when I bought one at a Pawn Shop in the early 1990's for $160.

There was a period where they were treated like lepers.

Sheryl Crow changed that.

It's a little confusing. But the Mark II bass sports the Guild humbucker pickups.

They sound fine and some players swear by them.

But the M-85 basses that commanded those high prices were the earlier models
Equipped with the Bisonic pickups. Awesome sounding basses.

Post 2009 the prices paid for those dropped to around $2500,but I am basing that on one auction and a fleeting offer by someone who quickly thought better of it.

As noted above, the seller will be lucky to get $1500.

Weren't the earlier ones thicker and semi-hollow? I don't know the history.

You are right on both counts.
