Thunderbird pickguard with logo
« on: November 03, 2017, 09:09:02 AM »
My 2013 left-handed Thunderbird pickguard became warped and cracked.  Long story short, although my luthier said their supplier could make the pickguard with logo, turns out the luthier got a sticker and applied it after the fact and I think it looks like crap (some lines thicker than others).  I can also peel it up with my fingernail.  Are there any better options?

Thanks.

Have it engraved with a cnc machine. Then fill up the engraved lines with black paint. It'll never fade again.

Eugen Wulff of GunCustoms can do it. He used to make the pickguards for the BaCHbirds that I used to sell.
But Eugen is in The Netherlands (in the city of Haarlem).

Hmmm, that could be possible since I'm seeing a friend of mine from Rotterdam in a few weeks.

Get one from Larry V on TalkBass.  His are die cut (lines only, no backer) and with the exception of one line, very good.  High bond glue, basically automotive trim quality
He did this one for me for Frank Haagmans in the Netherlands.

This one, too, for a guy in Singapore...Gisbo doesn't like me sticking birds on US basses.

Thanks, Carlo.  Yeah, I would initially have gone with one of Larry's, but this was supposed to all be done via the supplier.  Are Larry's hard to apply?

No, just peel off the backer, stick the rest on  Rub the remaining front sheet and peel it off.  What remains is slightly raised lines just like a hot stamp.

Yeah, that sounds easy enough.  Have a good source for pickguards?

This is where I bought my Black/Red/Black Thunderbird guard. They seem to have a large supply of colors to choose from.
