Funny podcast arguing about Michael Anthony
« on: September 10, 2017, 07:56:38 PM »
My favorite light entertainment podcast lately is John Hodgman (you might know him as "PC" from the old Mac-vs-PC commercials, or as a rival character on "Bored to Death" among other minor things), acting as "fake internet judge" to settle disputes of no consequence.

One particular recent episode might amuse Bass Outpost members as it consists entirely of an argument about one bassist.
Synopsis: "Jackson brings the case against his friend, Jesse. They are at odds about the merits of Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony. Jesse insists Michael Anthony is an unsung genius. Jackson disagrees and wants to put this debate to rest. Who’s right? Who’s wrong?"

It's fun in a "passionate music fans who don't play bass arguing about bass" kind of way.
Yes, they mention the "drunk bass solo" youtube video.

I just remember that Michael Anthony was the name of the character who gave out checks to people on the 50's TV series "The Millionaire."

Well whatever one thinks about Mr. Sobolewski, I think we can all agree this is a great Franki Valli song.

Looks like there were a couple versions at least.

Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Anthony is a very good bassist - he played simplistic with much of Van Halen most of the time, but even there there were flashes where he showed brain and chops. With Chickenfoot his playing is much more varied and smart.
