I wouldn't touch that one for 2k. Not only is the wear and replacement tuners a problem, who know what the oversized washer on the baritone switch is covering up.  Things like that always make me nervous.

Oh I agree; that damage by the F hole is extensive.  I wouldn't pay anywhere near that much even if I had the budget and certainly not without personally inspecting the instrument to make sure it wasnt worse than it looks.  That washer in particular caught my eye as potentially hiding something.

Why buy a cheap bass that sounds good plugged immediately when you can buy an expensive one where you have to work at to make it audible:mrgreen:

Oh come on now. You definitely don't have to work to make it audible. You'll never get crisp upper mids and highs, but you will be heard.

It's a Man Bass, with balls! The 50's EB-2's had both balls & Mickey Mouse ears...............

It takes courage to admit that you can't hear what the rest of us can hear.  :P

There was an exceptionally fine condition EB2 in a shop here for ages. The guy wanted $AU6K for it.
Can't remember what year it was. Never bothered me it was half an hours drive away.

This thread prompted me to check whether it was still there just now.
I see the shop has gone into receivership a few months ago.

Well if it helps i think my horribly beaten up eb2 is a 64 and it has that bridge.
Louder bass!.

Exactly... everyone at the back of the room will be blown away.  Your other choice (and you'd be in fine company along with Hooky and myself) is just play most things higher up on the neck (we all know you like to go there Mr "Good High Register Access").

Also there's always the baritone switch (I have a Sunn head - I can get all the bass I want back in there no problem ... actually I have 2 Sunns now; got a decent local deal recently on a 2 x 6550 based Solarus that was not working - turned out to be just a bad fuse; dirty connections to the reverb tank and now it seems V1 needs to be replaced; bought it to fix n flip tho so hopefully won't be here long - trying to raise money for the gear budget).

Duh, that's an advice you should have given me 20 years ago! But if I'm honest, these days my favourite positon (with no other human being involved that is) is sitting beside the 8x10" Ampeg fridge (sans horn of course) on top of my 1x18" Ampeg cube. Very comfy.

Whatever treble my ears don't catch anymore, my butt now picks up as(s) bass frequencies ... and let me tell you - I like the feeling!
