Gibson Custom guitars
« on: May 31, 2017, 01:07:48 PM »
Have you folks seen the new limited edition guitars from Gibson custom? Could they be a precursor to the basses for 2018?

I expect we'll get something like this.

Starting at $5,999. Order yours today. Gibson says it's "refreshingly defiant" so it must be worth the price.

Can you say "Fender Road-Worn?" .... I knew you could... but Fender only gets around a grand for these....

But that's not "refreshingly defiant" -- you can only get that with a Gibson!

Don't forget that the whole "relic" nonsense started with Fender's Custom Shop. They start at over $3K.

It'd be great to have a Les Paul bass back in the lineup, sprayed over or not. I'm guessing (hoping), the bass players won't get pampered with such a luxurious finish option as the guitarists get. The modern double cut shape could be pretty nifty for a bass as well.

Never seen these. Is it a joke? They screw up a finish, paint over it and have the nerve to claim money for both finishes??

So sorry but I LOVE IT. Go ahead and mock me.

Also... a T-bird in this theme would be killer.

True, Fenders aren't "defiant". What Link Wray did to amp speakers with pencils was defiant!  :P

And the relic business still boggles my mind. Like the Good Old Boys said at the end of Blues Brothers 2000, "...bunch of wanna-be's."

Good violin makers have been doing that for ages.

This is a violin made by my good friend Shlomo Moyal, who teaches violin making in Italy. He built it for his daughter. It's a Antonio Stradivari "Hellier"1679 model replica.

And a bass - this is a Bernhard Simon Fendt II 1840c Model replica he made for his wife, a fantastic classical upright bass player and teacher.

I agree, that's art.

Taking sandpaper and cigarette burns to those instruments would NOT be art - but teenage wannabees seem to think it is on electric guitars and basses.

Just announced. It's real, but it will be a joke if someone actually buys one.

At least Henry J. has figured out what to do with his reject bodies.

....

Not the same thing, IMHO. What Gibson is doing isn't imitating an antique. Likewise with Fender "relics."

It would have been defiant if it had happened. 99% of Link Wray's claims never happened. And he had the same amount of Indian blood as Iron Eyes Cody.
