Jeebus. Fecking. Christ.  Look at the bend on that truss rod.
The future I come from no longer exists.

I can't say it any better. Looks like someone drove a truck over that with the neck propped up on a curb.

The guy says he opened the case and found the guitar like this.  Surely the case must have been trashed, as an early indication that something was amiss?

Peter Himmelman is an experienced traveler as a musician, he would never just casually travel with an unprotected guitar or put one in a faulty case.

I spent nearly 2 decades in the Airline industry, the last miserable 6 years were with Delta.  In the interest of brevity I'll just say this doesn't surprise me at all.  But keep in mind it was just as likely the TSA as it was the inept staff at Delta.  Someone probably opened the case for an inspection (probably looking for drugs), placed the guitar somewhere precariously and then the damage occurred.  Then placed back in the case so they wouldn't be held personally responsible and then sent on its way.

Hope he gets every dime, but it might be a longshot and will probably hinge more on his flyer status than anything else.  Taking it public like he did was the best approach, if it goes viral they're even more likely to buckle.

No way in any level of hell that the guitar was damaged like that without the case being damaged, unless someone took it out and destroyed it, then put it back.

This happened to me in the mid 80s while transporting a '60 SG Custom. Worse actually. Don't ask what I got for it, it'll make me want to cry. On the plus side the case was fine... It had straps around the outside to reinforce the latches, and it was closed up when I picked it up off of the conveyor belt.

He doesn't seem to have sought any publicity outside Facebook so far. Maybe his father-in-law will speak out.
