Rob will shake his head in disbelief ...
« on: March 06, 2017, 01:17:05 PM »
... but I have significantly contributed to non-vegetable 2017 Dutch exports by procuring this here:

"Limited 29 CD box set. From their debut Just Ear-rings from 1965 till the tribute to their hometown The Hague from 2015 - all 26 studio albums by Holland's most legendary rock band are collected in a monumental box Complete Studio Recordings, augmented with no less than three CD's full of non-album tracks. Throughout the years Golden Earring released no less than 26 studio albums. Next to that, dozens of songs were released but not on official albums (the so called non-album tracks), including classics like 'That Day', 'Sound Of The Screaming Day', 'Another 45 Miles', 'Holy Holy Life' and hard to find songs, like 'So You Want To Be A Rock'n'Roll Star' / 'L.A. Woman' and 'You Gun My Love'. In total no less than 307 songs, that for the first time are compiled in this box set Complete Studio Recordings, including extended liner notes per album by respected music journalist Tjerk Lammers. So turn the volume up to 11 and hear how a little beat band from The Hague turned into the biggest and best Dutch rock band ever!"

It's a real treasure trove, they never made the same album twice, sometimes veering radically in style, yet always pleasantly recognizable. Some earthshaking, no-compromise, lyrically daring, edgy RAWK!!! there:

I still can't stand the singing of George Kooymans nor Barry Hay.
But Rinus is a class guy. Great bass player. Nice down to earth kinda guy.

And a band that can stay together for 56 years deserves a whole lot of respect!

I've got a 1974 tour shirt... some obscure support act too... not a single recording in the files...

Great! Bombay is my favourite.

Last weekend I did a 45min live interview on stage with Rinus on a music fair in The Netherlands. We brought five basses:  A violin bass, a longhorn, his first homebuilt bass, a copy of that one and his Dano-style double neck with P and Dano necks. We talked about his basses, amps (he used a lot of Electro-Harmonix guitar amps), strings and the changing of bass styles / sounds during their career. Very nice and interesting.
