Around here, nothing comes in without another going out, so out with a Music Man bass, in with this '71 EB-0. It had been on Reverb over 9 months, I offered way below asking price, and the seller accepted.

All original except for the strap buttons which appear to be Dunlops. 29K of glorious mud. The evertilt has no tilt at all. Great neck. Well balanced. I'm pleased!

Not enough natural light for good pics, these will have to do. Unlike my old EB-0L, this one is walnut, not just a faded cherry.

When did they stop making the slothead? I have what is reported to be a '64 and it's the solid headstock.

I think the slothead was only made in 70-71 - flyguitars.com sez they began production in late '69. My '72 EB-3 has the (large) solid 'stock. My '68 EB-0 has the smaller solid.

Slotheads only appeared in the '70 and '71 catalogs. Late '69 to early '72 is about right.

Yes, it can rattle just about anything. Back in the late '90s I turned up too loud while practicing (with my old slothead) and got a noise complaint. Cop asked me to turn down the music. He assumed I was having a party b/c he could see the awning over my front door vibrating up and down.

For my taste, most short scales try to have the right combination of top and bottom, and they don't quite succeed. With the EB-0, there's no attempt at a balanced tone. It stands alone.

I still have the (USA) SUB Sterling. Didn't need two MMs.

True, the paneling and textured pile carpet scream '70s.    But still in great shape, I'm not into redecorating for its own sake.

The aging is great. Just the right amount of lacquer checking, it wasn't left in direct sunlight or kept in a cold dry room.

Only oddity is that the bridge cover isn't quite centered, although it's not noticeable unless you're right up close and looking for it. It wasn't repositioned, the screw holes are original. I guess the CNC operator must have been hung over. 

It came with D'addario rounds, which I replaced with a lightly used set of Labella flats. Sounds great, no complaints, but I may go for Labella black tapewounds, which I always used on my old EB-0L.

Well said. There is much to enjoy about a bass that is designed to be exactly what it is, and doesn't try to be a Swiss army knife.
