Carrie Fisher joins the list...
« on: December 27, 2016, 02:14:20 PM »
rip

As a footnote...

Richard Adams, no youngster mind you, author of Watership Down has gone... rip

George Michael... singer... almost as notable for his sexuality as a singer here... rip

Any more...? Still a few more days Lord...

Never a big fan of George Michael. But his performance at the Freddy Mercury tribute was quite impressive.

I hope there are not more.  But in a year like 2016 just a few days can be a long time.

Carrie: It was nice that we all got to see her once again in the penultimate Star Wars sequel, a befitting closure. A Sci Fi series icon like Spock and a real slow and enduring burner as regards adventurous beach wear fashion following the "less is more"- golden rule. If I may say so.

George Michael: Anybody that can pull off singing "guilty feet have got no rhythm" with the whole world listening rather than laughing deserves respect. Also: D / B minor / E minor and A7 were never put to better and more effective use than in Last Christmas (and whenever I think of young hipsters on an alpine vacation, that video dominates everything). A troubled man, but one of the best white soul singers ever.

And my three day stubble never looks as immaculate as his either, sigh!  :-\

A history of drug addiction usually results in premature death, even if it's not the direct cause.

I'm so far removed from pop music that I never heard of Wham until reading about George Michael's death. First heard of him when I saw a video of I Want Your Sex. Seemed obvious to me that it was directed at another man. Heard of him twice more before yesterday, both times when he was arrested for having sex in a public restroom. Probably the tip of the iceberg.

Probably the tip

Of something!

Then there was this...

I was a little old to freak out over Star Wars but I remember being Ms. Fisher (crazy or not).

Not just the tip, I think George preferred the full enchilada.

Her one-woman show, based on her book "Wishful Drinking", is well worth watching.  Sort of a comic memoir.  I remember laughing a lot. It  was a TV version filmed live, which can probably still be obtained somewhere...  ?
Basses: Gibson lpb-1, Gibson dc jr tribute, Greco thunderbird, Danelectro dc, Ibanez blazer.  Amps: genz benz shuttle 6.0, EA CXL110, EA CXL112, Spark 40.  Guitars: Danelectro 59XT, rebuilt cheap LP copy

You remember being Ms. Fisher? You mean they dressed you up in "Slave Leia"-attire that one fateful night when you woke up innocently (and, we were informed, against your will) in women's clothes? It seems that after all these years even-saucier-still details of this noteworthy and collectively well-remembered incident seem to surface. Tell us more!

She was always hilarious on Craig Ferguson. She was one of his favorite guests.

And mom, Debbie Reynolds, follows her the next day.  RIP to one of the movie icons.

Almost unbelievable. And there's 72 hours left.

The Carson repeat on Antenna TV tonight had Carrie Fisher and Garry Shandling as guests. She was funny, he was really on top of his game.

I probably mentioned this at the time, but when he died in March, Jerry Seinfeld had just released Garry's guest appearance on Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, which had been taped a few weeks prior. The episode was subtitled "It's Great That Garry Shandling Is Still Alive.”
